I taught my first insight meditation retreat in Dharamsala in the foothills of the Himalayas in the autumn of 1974 with around 30 participants. I am not sure how many retreats I have given since then but at a rough guess around 750 – 1000 ranging from day long retreats to week-long residential retreats, plus longer ones. Continue reading

Burmese Bhante, the Visionary of Bodh Gaya, died on Wednesday 6 October 2021, aged 86

Burmese Bhante, Venerable Sayadaw U Nyaneinda, Abbot of the Burmese Monastery, Bodh Gaya, Bihar, India died at 7.26 am on Wednesday 6 October 2021, aged 86 in Myanmar.

Last year, he returned to Myanmar for eye surgery. Owing to the lockdown, he could not return to his beloved Bodh Gaya. He contracted Covid in Myanmar and although he appeared to recover, the virus weakened his lungs. Burmese Bhante quietly faded from this world. Continue reading 



Three Residential Retreats at the Waldhaus Zentrum, Andernach, Germany between 12-24 October 2021. Do join.

I offer three consecutive mindfulness/insight meditation retreats at the Waldhaus Buddhist Zentrum near Andernach, Germany from 12 – 24 October 2021.

There are two five-day retreats and one weekend retreat.

The third retreat from 22-24 October was added yesterday. There are currently plenty of spaces.  The weekend retreat may not be on the website.
