From Stress to Mindfulness to the Joy of Clarity

From  2-5 pm on Saturday November 30 at the Relaxation Centre.

The application of mindfulness in daily life provides the opportunity for clear comprehension and insights into ourselves and situations. Mindfulness serves as a simple but powerful tool to dissolve stress, work with pain and develop greater receptivity to the wondrous moments of life. Through mindfulness, we have the opportunity to see and understand much more that we did not notice before. The inspiration for mindfulness comes from the Buddha who highlighted four primary areas for mindfulness, namely breath/body, feelings, states of mind and Dharma (teachings for awakening). Mindfulness practices are now widely used in hospitals, schools, business, prisons as well as for householders. The three hour workshop will include a talk, questions and answers, mindfulness practice and small groups for sharing. All are welcome.

The Power of Love

Love is the most powerful tool for change in personal matters, family matters, work, through the arts and with social/political issues.  Intention, interest and action confirm expressions of love. Love also requires wisdom to deal with unexpected changes that can impact upon our love. Small deeds and gestures as well as long standing commitments confirm love.

We sometimes believe that love causes pain rather than appreciate it is reactions to situations that triggers pain. What shows love? What obscures love? What are the conditions that make love possible? The Buddha advocated the generating of love in all directions. The expanding of love brings great benefit to our loved ones. Love shows itself in romance, kindness, friendship, service, compassion and generosity. This workshop will include a talk on love, questions and answers, meditation and small groups for discussion. All are welcome.

Christopher Titmuss, a former Buddhist monk, teaches retreats and other programmes around the world. He is the author of An Enlightened Life, Poems from the Edge and Mindfulness Training Course.  He has recently completely a book called The Buddha of Love. He lives in Totnes, Devon, England.
